Male testosterone is too often treated as a number instead of a clinical issue.
Many providers look at a lab result, compare it to a broad reference range, and if the patient falls somewhere inside that range, the conversation ends with the patient being told he is “within normal limits.”
The clinical reference range for healthy men is between 264 and 916.
The Problem Is Not Just Low Testosterone
The problem is that testosterone care is treated as a pass-or-fail system.
If the number is low enough, it gets attention.
If the number is “normal,” many patients are dismissed.
A testosterone level of 320 and a level of 850 are both considered ‘normal’ but they are not equal in how they support men's energy, libido, recovery, strength, and body composition.
“Normal” Is Not the Same as “Optimal”
In men’s health, the goal should not be to barely clear the minimum.
We at Hello Health have personally spoken with the clinical research team at the Baylor College of Medicine in 2025, and they continue to actively study where men may benefit most within the broad testosterone range. Their research suggests that patients who have maintained in the upper quartile of the range experience the strongest overall outcomes, not only in how they feel day to day, but also in broader health measures related to cardiovascular disease and cancer.
Why This Matters
When testosterone is properly evaluated and managed, men experience improvement in:
-
libido
-
sexual performance
-
energy
-
focus
-
lean muscle mass
-
recovery
-
body composition
-
bone support
-
overall vitality
That is why this matters. Not because men are chasing a higher number for its own sake, but because they are trying to feel better, function better, and live better.
